Welcome to my blog. I’m Wilton. I grew up in the fast paced, bustling city of Johannesburg, South Africa. I studied civil engineering at Wits University, where I developed a strong work ethic and the “engineering mindset.” At the end of my third year, I did some vacation work and quickly realised that civil engineering was not my passion. Since I had a bursary, I had to see it through. Nevertheless, I don’t regret studying it. (I’ll tell you how and why I chose civil engineering in another post.)
I worked in the engineering industry for a couple of years and got some great exposure to large scale engineering projects. My forte was in roadbuilding. For those in the know: I specialized in earthworks, layerworks and sealing. I travelled the country, worked on cool projects, lived in rural areas, and embarked on interesting ventures.
After having “worked off” my bursary, I moved to Cape Town, studied project management and made a career pivot to financial services. I wrote my thesis on the nature of project management in South African SMEs (small to medium enterprises). I’m passionate about solving business problems in SMEs.
Outside of work, I enjoy travelling, coffee shopping, and embarking on entrepreneurial ventures. I also enjoy immersing myself in art – particularly bonsai, handcrafting and DIY’ing (is it art?).
